- Last weekend I went with my sons up to Sundance to test drive the Tesla Model X --- WOW --- I'm a Mustang guy, but ---WOW. Talk about a dream car. It would be like commuting in a roller coaster everyday to work - and you could also put your hands up in the air as the auto driving is pretty cool. I was driving up Provo Canyon with all the twists and turns - nervous at first, but ... it works... the only problem was in the construction zones with cones - it got a little close, and I took over the steering.
How does this relate to taxes.... well, the Model X is over 6,000 pounds, which means it qualifies for the heavy SUV category for Section 179 business depreciation purposes - and with Trump's new laws for bonus depreciation - You can get a complete write-off for the business portion, but it would sure be hard to distinguish business and pleasure. Add to that the $7,500 credit for electric vehicles, Tesla has a great thing going... and boy does it go!!
For questions on how to write off your Tesla, call me, or better yet, come by and we'll go for a drive...
